MASSAGE

What We Offer

We offer individualized therapeutic massage therapy in 60 and 90 minute sessions.  Ashley is trained in deep tissue, swedish massage, shiatsu, and tui na, and has experience in prenatal massage as well as thai massage techniques.

Who Would Benefit?

Massage has multiple benefits and therefore can help people with a variety of complaints.

Musculoskeletal Pain: Massage is extremely effective at managing or treating musculoskeletal pain of many different causes.  Ashley commonly treats neck and shoulder pain, low back pain, hip pain, and knee pain, as well as many other areas of pain.

Headaches/Migraines: as a migraine and tension headache sufferer herself, Ashley has done extensive research into the best techniques to manage these conditions.  While not all headaches and migraines are caused by muscle tension, many are either directly caused by or worsened by muscle tension.

Depression/Anxiety: Massage and bodywork has been found to have a beneficial effect on a person's mental health. For those who struggle to calm their mind, or ground themselves, massage can provide a safe and welcoming place to connect the mind with the body and help center and ground one’s emotions.

PTSD: Massage offers a safe and communicative place for those living with PTSD to connect with their bodies in a gentle and kind way.  Ashley specializes in working with survivors of trauma, especially survivors of childhood trauma and/or sexual abuse and assault.  She is comfortable massaging overtop of clothes when that is a client's preference.  She will ask for any applicable triggers in order to help the client feel more comfortable, but will not ask questions about the trauma itself.  Please see more about what you can expect under the Trauma Informed section on this website.

Other Conditions: Ashley routinely sees and treats people living with sciatica, plantar fasciitis, scoliosis, tennis elbow, fibromyalgia, sports injuries and conditioning, insomnia, arthritis, chronic fatigue, and more.  If you have a question about whether or not massage could help you, or what you can expect from a session, please don’t hesitate to reach out for a free consultation.

What to Expect

It’s hard to summarize what to expect, because this can vary wildly from person to person.  Your comfort is Ashley’s primary goal and you will be communicated with as much or as little as you’d like.  When you arrive at the office, Ashley will have a brief meeting with you to discuss your areas of concern, and any medical diagnoses or injuries you’ve had, as well as anything else we need to discuss before starting.

Relaxing music is the default setting on the radio, however if you would like to plug your phone in to play your favorite audiobook, podcast, Spotify station, or guided meditation that will also be encouraged.  For anyone who prefers silence, we just turn the radio off.

After our consult, Ashley will step out of the room while you undress to your comfort level.  What does this mean?  Whatever you want it to!  Most people undress either fully or all but their underwear.  Ashley will keep all privates draped at all times and if hip or glute work is requested, she will ask permission prior to moving the drape to access these areas (and a “no” answer will always be respected).  These areas can be worked over the drape or over clothing, though with less precision.  Some people leave their bra on as well and are comfortable with me unhooking it while doing back work.  Others prefer to leave their bra or binder on at all times.  And some people prefer to be fully clothed.  All of these options, and any other variation, is welcomed.

Ashley will knock before entering the room, and then will get started on the work discussed.
